This Week in Geek Movies – Summer Movie Kickoff

March 23, 2012
Even though John Carter opened two weeks ago I feel like the summer movies really aren’t taking off until this weekend. Here’s what’s opening on March 23, 2012.  Now I haven’t seen any of these movies. I’m basing any recommendations on the trailers/hype/news on the movies.
Rotten Tomatoes – 87% Critics/95% Fans
Rated PG-13
Pick of the week.
I’m straight out saying I’m biased about this being the movie I am most excited to see. I’ve read the books and have had my tickets purchased in advance. Everything I’ve seen so far leads me to believe that it’s going to be a great adaptation. I’ll definitely have more on this tomorrow after I’ve actually seen it. Since it’s PG-13 and the book has been loved by all ages this will rule the box office for quite some time.
Rotten Tomatoes – 85% Critics/93% Fans
Rated R
Crazy action.
If you’re looking for a film that’s not going to be packed with preteens I would suggest The Raid:Redemption. Even though this movie is a foreign film, it looks like one of the craziest, action-packed non-comic book movies coming out. Sometimes it’s just nice to see actual people beating up other actual people (though superheroes/robots/aliens have their place).  Just watch the trailer and you’ll be excited about it too.
